This spring loaded compensating center guide presser foot set is built for one job: sewing perfectly straight, evenly spaced double-needle stitching along an existing center seam. The adjustable spring loaded center guide rides in the seam ditch and keeps the work aligned so both rows of stitching land at an equal distance from the seam — every time, without the operator eyeballing it.

What separates this set from a fixed guide is the spring: because the guide is spring loaded, it stays in contact with the material even when the walking feet lift. On a walking foot machine the feet are constantly alternating up and down — a rigid guide loses the seam on every lift cycle. This one doesn't let go, so the seam tracking stays true through the entire run.
