FAQs: Heavy Duty Machines
What makes a sewing machine “heavy duty”?
What makes a sewing machine “heavy duty”?
Larger hooks, higher presser-foot lift, stronger feed, and the capacity to run thick thread (V-138 and up) through dense material — saddlery, slings, tarps, multiple leather layers. It's a different class from a “heavy duty” domestic machine.
What thread and needles do I need for thick material?
What thread and needles do I need for thick material?
Match all three: thread size, needle size and machine capacity. V-138 thread wants a #23 needle; V-207 a #24–25 — and the machine must be rated for them. Guide: choosing needles for heavy-duty fabrics.
Can these machines sew webbing, slings and harnesses?
Can these machines sew webbing, slings and harnesses?
Yes — that's their home turf: seat belts, tie-downs, lifting slings and harnesses need exactly this penetration force and heavy thread. For load-rated slings, follow the stitch patterns your certification requires.
